About Beatriz Mayorca

Biography

This Venezuelan-born artist and interior designer has lived in the USA since 2005. She graduated with a degree in Social Communication from the Central University of Venezuela, but her passion for the arts and design made her seek a Bachelor's of Fine Arts from the University of Central Oklahoma.

In her artistic practice, she has been crafting different art forms: from sculptures to unique furniture and lighting design; but one way she can touch the general community in a broad spectrum is through her current execution of public art.

Beatriz Mayorca's roots extend from the coastal culture of the Caribbean, the Andes Mountain, and to the Amazon rainforest. Also intertwined with noticeable European influences where the use of concrete, wood, metal, and modern art are fundamental parts of her works. As a contemporary Hispanic artist, working outside of her country of origin gave her a new meaning to her creations- which are not based on traditional representations of Venezuelan crafts. Instead, being outside her motherland made Beatriz see herself as a global artist - a mestizo inheritance impregnated in each of her designs.

Q & A

How you feel about exhibiting at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum, home of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame?

"It's a sense of extraordinary pride and honor to exhibit my work at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum. It's a recognition and acknowledgment of my creative work. The great state of Oklahoma welcomed my family and me sixteen years ago, allowing me to develop my artistic career from the very beginning, enabling me to grow, tell my story, and strongly establish myself in this profession. Today, I return its greeting by leaving a positive representation throughout my creations and design' expressions, in and out of the state. "

It is the mission of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame to tell Oklahoma's story through its people. How does your art tell Oklahoma's story?

"There are many ways to create art. There are many ways to see it. But in today's world, I crave to develop unexpected functional and artistic designs that infuse optimism, offer an emotional boost, and aim toward a better tomorrow. They're art pieces with simple and refined lines that intertwine with pure forms born from modernism with a contemporary expression of moving forward. An onward dynamic that the Sooner State has manifested all these years that I have been living here."
